NewsFlooding causes Reading Festival camping shake-upFlooding at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival site has forced organisers to close off camping areas and car parks. Festival organiser Melvyn Benn has said that many camping areas are "unusable", so has put emergency flood plans into effect to accommodate campers arriving at the festival this weekend (August 24, 25 and 26). Organisers have had to turn a proposed car park into an impromptu camp-site, and many campsites will have reduced capacity. Information about the changes can be found on the Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals homepage now. "It's been a very difficult month," said Benn. "This summer has been bloody awful. "But we will be able to stage the world's greatest rock festival despite what climate change and the weather have thrown at us. I always said the festival was more important than the weather!" The Fratellis turn down David Beckham gig The Fratellis have turned down a chance to record the official song for David Beckham's first game as an LA Galaxy player. The Scots, who were asked to re-record The Beatles' 'Hello Goodbye' for the July football match, reportedly said, "No fucking way," according to Dotmusic. "We've turned down a huge list of ridiculous things like that," said frontman Jon Fratelli. "We're not a bunch of travelling salesmen. If we don't get successful on our own terms then we won't do it at all." He added: "We were like, 'No fucking way.' It would have got us noticed, of course, but we'd have lost our self-respect." |
